Miniature Quilled Hyacinths

I was bored after decorating the house for Christmas and didn't know what to do next.
So I forced myself into making something intricate and small. Well it turned out beautiful and superb as a show piece.
Here are some photographs of the paper quilled hyacinth bunch (they look close to hyacinths, I think :)).
Bunch of Hyacinths

small as it gets!
I decided not to show how to make them, but instead put up a youtube video made by yoyomax12, she is brilliant with her craft.

Christmas Tree- Paper

Save money and have fun making your very own attractive, chic and unique Christmas decorations.
I have already made a Paper wreath, you will find it here- (http://shalmalipatkar.blogspot.com/2011/12/wreath-for-season.html).
There are lots of attractive recycled papers and materials available at crafts shops or you can use any nice patterned papers or magazines you come across too.
http://www.recyclenow.com/
Here I will be showing you how I made our Christmas tree.
Enjoy!!!
Things you will need-
(missed the scissors :P)
Then cut the baking/wax paper as well as green tissue/crap paper into circles of 16, 13, 10, 7 & 4 cms diameters (I wanted a small tree, you could increase the sizes as per your choice).
(you will notice my pair of scissors now ;))
And stick them together like so..
Now fold them into halves (X4)

Cut the tip off (not very big)
And then form the concertina fold using the already made folds as guidance
Do this for all the circles and stack them one above the other on the pencil (starting the largest first upward), I have supported the pencil using a thread reel.
Finally decorate the tree as per choice!!
Mine looks like this :)

I even liked this Christmas tree, maybe will try it next year...

Wreath for the season

Most people may think of wreaths around the holidays, but I have always loved them all year long. And wanted to make one this time round. Here is a simple, inexpensive way to make a wreath from PAPER!!! (adapted from Living with Lindsey's blog & http://youtu.be/HnfjBxNIfcY ). I loved the way it looked, almost like something out of a Pottery Barn catalog.
This one is made from Local (yellow pages). I started with a 12" cardboard, loads of rolled cones of yellow pages and glue (fevicol)!
This picture above is the half way point....
(There's more than one way to roll a cone and my favorite way was discovered through trial and error. Plus, I liked folding the cones the same way throughout the wreath)
Finally after filling the complete wreath with these cones, I spray painted it with gold and left it to dry. Meanwhile, I cut a cardboard in a shape of a donut and covered it tightly with a yarn to form the center piece of the wreath. Lastly, I decorated it with a pieces of a birdie!!!
All that’s left to do now is to find a spot to hang my new creation!
There you go! Perfectly fits with our black shelf in our lounge! I hope you can try this easy project.
Merry Christmas & Happy New year to all of you!!

India to late Mario Miranda

The man behind those popular Times of India cartoons...

The man behind those quirky Bombay portraits...
And most famous, for the popular walls of equally popular Cafe Mondegar in Mumbai.
Cafe Mondegar was one of the places where the 26/11 attacks took place!

May the soul of all rest in peace...

What I loved about Mario Miranda's work was his simplicity. His sketches were clean, simple but still detailed. And of course, the addition of humour in all his sketches reflects what he really was. You will be missed Mario!

In his remembrance, I am treating myself to his book http://mariodemiranda.com/buy.html

Earth dates Venus!!!

Decided to sketch something B/W this time... And I am a follower/fan of Mark Parisi's blog
http://www.offthemark.com/main.htm
This is an adaptation of his sketch...
"Earth dates Venus"

Earth notices an acne on his forehead just before his date with Venus. I could relate to this instantly. Hope you guys have had such a day in your lives once too!!
Have a good day!! :)

PS: Not an original but an adaptation from Mark Parisi..

Origami: Roses out of Maple leaves

I found this great craft idea this autumn just in the nick of time. Thus it was high on my to-do list!

In a superior step-by-step photographic tutorial, Natale shows how to make roses out of colorful autumn leaves (original)— maple leaves, to be precise, perfect for us residing in Europe!
In case you have any questions please blog me and I'll give more detailed description. Maybe a high on your to-do-list for next year... :)
She gives a description, too, but the online translators can’t quite handle the task… Never mind, the photographs are self explanatory and speak the language of faux flowers!
They're beautiful.
Tip: Make a point to pick yourself some colourful maple leaves before they fall, so they’ll still be soft and pliable enough to fold up tightly. Or possibly from my experience I advise to iron or put outer leaves between pages as it can roll up easily.
It's easy and simple to make, free and compliments Mother Nature and ornaments your house beautifully!
